There’s a good chance some of the most toxic things in your home right now are your cleaning sprays. Luckily, there are some great options to replace them with! One is Dr. Bronner Soaps, which can be diluted and used for basically any cleaning job. Another is Branch Basics!
Let’s look at an example of a toxic all-purpose spray that you might be currently using (it was what I used before I swapped!). Here is the ingredient list, with harmful ingredients bolded: Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride, Water, Dipropylene Glycol Butyl Ether, Ethanolamine, Lauramine Oxide, Fragrance/Parfum, Decanol, FD&C Yellow #5, Nonanal, Octanol, Decanol, and 2-Methylundecanal. Health effects include allergic reactions, asthma, lung irritation, cancer, organ failure, eye and skin irritation, development issues, infertility, reproductive organ damage and cancer, and birth defects.
The Branch Basics Starter Kit includes the concentrate (condensed soap) and three glass spray bottles. Each bottle has a water line and a soap line. The three bottles have different lines to get the right concentration for your use – All-Purpose, Bathroom, or Streak-Free. Fill your bottle of choice with water up to the right line, then add concentrate to the soap one. Then shake gently, spray on whatever needs cleaning, and wipe away!
The ingredients are super gentle and safe:
Purified Water, Decyl Glucoside (a non-toxic cleanser), Organic Chamomile Extract, Coco-Glucoside (another cleanser made from coconut, corn, or palm), Sodium Citrate (citric acid - a salt that softens the water), Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda – an awesome cleaner), and Sodium Phytate (a safe preservative and binder for the ingredients)
Branch Basics also has an Oxygen Boost you can add to extra-tough jobs. It only has two ingredients, Sodium Percarbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate, both safe.
Branch Basics products are all tested for safety by a third-party lab that stated both cleansers are “benign as water” - which they’d never seen before. And this stuff really works, too! It’ll remove even the toughest of stains and clean the dirtiest of messes. You can see hundreds of happy customers on the Branch Basics website, along with before-and-after pictures that prove how good this is. One bottle is all you need for anything, which is amazing in a world where the average household has 10 or more cleaning products.
You can get the Glass Starter Kit here and Oxygen Boost here! I recommend the glass bottles to reduce plastic toxins, but if that’s not within your budget right now, they also sell plastic spray bottles of All-Purpose, Bathroom, and Streak-Free separately.
Thanks for sharing this information, much appreciation for providing accessible substitutes!
I love Dr. Bronner products!
